&honey Deep Moist Shampoo is a popular Japanese shampoo that features moisturizing ingredients such as honey and royal jelly. Online, it’s often praised for being easy to use and quick to lather, but some reviews also mention that it can leave hair feeling dry. If you’re unsure whether it’s the right pick, you’re not alone.
To check how it really performs, we reviewed it based on results from testing in the six areas below:
Cleansing Power
Repair Ingredients (Ingredient Analysis)
Scalp Friendliness (Ingredient Analysis)

We also compared it with other popular drugstore shampoos, including new releases and best-sellers from various brands. Based on hands-on testing, we’ll break down its real strengths and the points to watch out for in detail.

&honey Deep Moist Shampoo is a good choice for people who don’t want to spend too much time shampooing. In actual use, most testers were able to create lather quickly. While some of the compared shampoos were difficult to foam up with a small amount, this one made it easy to produce plenty of bubbles, helping cut down wash time. The rich, fluffy lather made it easy to wash while cushioning the hair, which may appeal to those concerned about friction damage.
Its cleansing performance also earned high marks. We used lard to simulate the scalp's sebum, and when mixed with, it removed 188.03 mg of the lard. This exceeds 180 mg, which is considered a benchmark for the amount of oil produced by oily skin, and is in line with many of the shampoos we tested. &honey's shampoo should help remove excess sebum, styling products, and other buildup, and may reduce greasiness on the scalp and hair.
The floral scent was rated positively by our testers, with comments such as “smells very nice” and “great for everyday use.” While some of the compared products had fresher, more refreshing scents, this one suits people who prefer a sweet, elegant floral fragrance. More than half of the testers said post-wash squeakiness was “not noticeable,” and none reported the dryness mentioned in some online reviews.
Another strong point is its ingredient lineup. After reviewing the ingredient list, we found that it contains a good range of repair ingredients. Both keratin-based and non-keratin protein components are included, which can help support the repair of damaged hair. This makes it a reassuring option for those focused on caring for hair damage.
That said, it contains lauramidopropyl betaine as a cleansing agent and menthol as a cooling ingredient, both of which may cause irritation for people with sensitive skin. If you have a sensitive scalp and want something especially gentle, you may want to consider other options.

&honey Deep Moist Shampoo 1.0 is a Japanese shampoo marketed with the goal of “cleansing with moisturizing ingredients.” More than 90% of its formula consists of moisturizing ingredients such as honey and royal jelly (excluding cleansing ingredients and including water). The formula is designed to help maintain the hair’s moisture balance and leave it feeling hydrated and supple.
The brand also emphasizes an organic-focused formula. It uses certified organic oil sourced from Morocco and contains no synthetic colorants. Instead, the shampoo’s natural honey-like color comes from the ingredients themselves. It is also free from sulfates, parabens, mineral oil, and synthetic antioxidants.
&honey is a honey-based beauty brand launched in 2018 by Viclear Co., Ltd. In addition to shampoos, treatments, and hair oils, the brand offers a wide range of skincare and body care products as well.
In the Philippines, &honey shampoos are available in five types. After comparing and testing popular shampoos, we found that &honey Deep Moist Shampoo 1.0 has five key strengths. We’ll go through each one in detail, so if you’re considering buying it, be sure to read on.
In testing, this shampoo showed strong cleansing power. When the lard used as a stand-in for sebum was mixed with the shampoo, it removed 188.03 mg of the lard. Since typical sebum levels are estimated at 180 mg for men and 145 mg for women, this result suggests it can effectively wash away excess oil from the scalp and hair.
Other shampoos we tested also removed around 150–230 mg of lard, so overall cleansing performance was high across the group. That said, this product still offers enough cleansing power to remove styling product residue and everyday buildup. It’s a good option for people concerned about greasiness on their hair or scalp.
The range of repair ingredients earned a high evaluation. After reviewing the ingredient list, we confirmed that it contains keratin (wool), a keratin-based protein used as an external repair ingredient. This suggests it can support the repair of hair damaged by coloring and other chemical treatments.
Another plus is the inclusion of hydrolyzed silk, a non-keratin protein that acts as both an internal and external repair ingredient. While it does not contain internal frizz-care ingredients or CMC-like repair components and has fewer repair ingredients than some top-performing products, the formula is still a solid option for those concerned about hair damage.
When tested by 10 male and female monitors, the shampoo’s lathering performance was well received, matching its online reputation. Nine out of 10 testers rated it highly, saying it “lathers quickly” and “cleans thoroughly from roots to ends, even on long hair.” Some of the shampoos we compared were harder to lather with a small amount, but this one is well-suited for people who want to wash their hair quickly and efficiently.
The lather itself is dense, with many testers commenting that it was “long-lasting” and “kept its bounce even after washing.” A few noted that the foam softened slightly while washing, but overall, complaints were minimal. Since hair can be washed while being cushioned by plenty of foam, it’s also a good option for those concerned about friction-related damage.
Tester Comments on Lather and Foam Density:
“The lather didn’t form instantly, but there was more than enough foam to coat my hair from roots to ends. The bubbles were thick and bouncy, didn’t collapse easily, and felt long-lasting.” (Male)
“As soon as I applied it and started lathering with my hands, it foamed up quickly. The lather was fluffy and didn’t become runny, making it easy to wash with. The bubbles were fine and resistant to collapsing.” (Female)
“It lathered very quickly and produced plenty of foam right away. There was enough to fully coat my hair, and the fine bubbles didn’t disappear while washing.” (Female)
Another appealing point is that hair felt smoother after rinsing out the lather. Among the 10 testers who used it, more than half shared positive feedback such as “my fingers moved through my hair smoothly” and “there was no rough or tight feeling.”
That said, three testers mentioned that while they could run their fingers through their hair, they felt a slight tugging sensation. No one reported the dryness sometimes mentioned in online reviews, but depending on the person, using the shampoo alone may still leave some coarseness. If that’s a concern, pairing it with a conditioner or treatment is recommended.
Tester Comments on Softness After Washing:
“I didn’t feel any tightness or coarseness, but I wouldn’t say finger-combing was completely effortless.” (Male)
“I have long hair that usually tangles easily, but it rinsed out with a very smooth finger glide.” (Female)
“My fingers moved smoothly through my hair, and even with long, wet hair, there was no roughness down to the ends.” (Female)
Overall, testers were highly satisfied with the scent. As the brand describes it, the fragrance is a “peony honey,” with light floral and fruity notes gently coming through. Testers praised it as “perfect for everyday” and “appealing to a wide range of people.”
Some of the other shampoos we compared had fresher or sharper scents. In contrast, a few testers commented that this one felt “a bit too sweet” for their personal taste. It’s best suited for those who enjoy sweet, elegant, floral-style fragrances.
Tester Comments on the Scent:
“The fragrance was gentle and not overpowering, making it good for everyday use.” (Female)
“I noticed a fruity scent, similar to apple. It was slightly sweet and not really my preference, but it wasn’t unpleasant.” (Male)
“It had a subtle, sweet, honey-like floral scent. It smelled very nice, but the fragrance faded while washing, so I wished it lasted a bit longer.” (Female)
While &honey Deep Moist Shampoo 1.0 has plenty of strengths, we also found a point worth noting. If you’re considering buying it, it’s best to do a thorough check before deciding.
After reviewing the ingredient list, we rated it lower for scalp friendliness. The formula contains lauramidopropyl betaine as a cleansing agent and menthol as a cooling ingredient, both of which she noted may cause irritation for people with sensitive skin.
Some of the shampoos we compared did not include ingredients known to irritate sensitive skin and even contained anti-irritation components. In contrast, this product does not include ingredients specifically aimed at preventing skin irritation. If your scalp is sensitive or easily irritated, it may be best to avoid using it.
&honey recommends using its hair care products as a set in what it calls a “step-by-step care” routine. By layering the shampoo, hair pack, treatment, and hair oil in order, the brand says you can improve the final look of your hair while also enjoying changes in the scent at each step. We outlined the routine below.
