Anessa Perfect UV Sunscreen Skincare Gel SPF 50+ Review for the Philippines: Pros and Cons After Testing

ANESSA Perfect UV Sunscreen Skincare Gel SPF 50+ claims to melt smoothly into the skin with a silky, lightweight texture. Many online reviews say it applies smoothly or feels comfortable for daily wear. On the other hand, some users mention that it feels quite sticky or has a strong scent. If you’re deciding whether this sunscreen gel is worth buying, those mixed opinions can make it hard to choose.

To see how it really performs, we tested it based on the following eight criteria:

  • SPF Level

  • PA Rating

  • Non-Sticky Feeling

  • Resistance to Color Transfer

  • Scent

  • Container

  • Gentleness on Skin (ingredient analysis)

  • Texture

We also compared it with other popular sunscreen gels, including new releases and best-selling products from various brands. Based on our hands-on testing, we’ll clearly explain its real strengths and drawbacks.

ANESSA Perfect UV Sunscreen Skincare Gel is a solid choice for those who want dependable sun protection. In five spectrophotometer tests, the average equivalent SPF and PA values were 577.24 and 18.13. These results support its labeled SPF50+/PA++++ rating. Among all products tested, it was the only gel sunscreen to receive high marks in both UV measurements at the time of writing. While the brand positions it for daily UV exposure, it should also provide reliable protection on days spent outdoors for long hours.

Upon reviewing the ingredients, we appreciated the inclusion of skin-soothing components. However, those with sensitive skin should note that it contains UV absorbers, which may cause irritation depending on skin type. Overall, it’s well-suited for people who want strong UV defense while helping prevent dryness and irritation.

In terms of feel, testers confirmed that it doesn’t leave an uncomfortable or drying sensation after application. A few noted slight tightness, but most found it comfortable on normal skin. Despite some online claims that it feels “very sticky,” our tests showed otherwise. In five trials where skin applied wth the sunscreen was pressed against beads, an average of only 4 out of 20 beads stuck to skin, suggesting this sunscreen will not leave skin feeling sticky.

One downside is color transfer. When black fabric with a weight was rubbed over applied skin, transfer occurred in 3 out of 5 tests. If wearing dark clothing, applying face powder on top may help reduce this issue. The scent also divided opinions. It has a fresh citrus profile that some testers liked, while others found it a bit artificial.

The soft, squeezable tube is easy to use. While the larger size isn’t ideal for small bags, it dispenses product smoothly and allows better control of the amount. Testers also appreciated the narrow nozzle for precise application.

Overall, this sunscreen gel fits easily into a morning routine and delivers high-level UV protection. If you’re looking for SPF50+ coverage with a generally comfortable finish, it’s a strong option to consider.

What Is the Anessa Perfect UV Sunscreen Skincare Gel?

What Is the Anessa Perfect UV Sunscreen Skincare Gel?

ANESSA Perfect UV Sunscreen Skincare Gel features the brand’s new “Auto-Repair Technology,” designed to automatically smooth out micro-level cracks and unevenness that form in the sunscreen film after application. It is also formulated as a super waterproof sunscreen, resistant to sweat and water for longer-lasting wear. The brand lists its UV protection as SPF50+/PA++++.

Another highlight is its inclusion of moisturizing ingredients such as purple tea extract, green tea extract, and satsuma mandarin extract. In addition to protecting against UV rays, it is formulated to help defend the skin from dryness and environmental stress.

After application, it leaves a soft, radiant finish by gently reflecting light, and it can also be used as a makeup base. The formula is designed to be ocean-friendly, meaning it is less likely to wash into the ocean. The packaging uses wood-based resources, reflecting environmental consideration. It can also be removed with regular soap, making it convenient for daily use.

ANESSA Perfect UV Sunscreen Skincare Gel has received multiple beauty awards in Japan, including:

  1. Biteki 2024 First Half Best Cosmetics, UV Category (Body UV) – 1st Place
  2. @cosme Best Cosmetics Awards 2024 First Half, New Sunscreen Category – 3rd Place
  3. MAQUIA Brightening & UV Grand Prix 2024, New Technology UV Category – 2nd Place

The ANESSA Perfect UV line also offers a milk-type sunscreen. Like the gel, it provides SPF50+/PA++++ protection and is suitable for both everyday wear and outdoor activities.

Along with the same Auto-Repair Technology found in the gel, the milk version includes “Auto Booster Technology,” which is unique to this formula. According to the brand, this feature helps strengthen the UV protection layer when it comes into contact with sweat, water, heat, or humidity. It is also said to provide thorough coverage for areas prone to dark spots, such as around the eyes and cheeks.

While the gel focuses on a smooth, gliding texture, the milk version is described as having a lighter, more matte finish. If you prefer a less sticky and more lightweight feel, the milk type may suit you better.

About the SPF and PA Performance Tests

About the SPF and PA Performance Tests

To see how well this sunscreen blocks UV-A and UV-B rays, we used a spectrophotometer — a machine that measures UV light passing through a sample — and converted the results into what we call equivalent SPF and equivalent PA values.

The SPF and PA numbers printed on the product follow Japan Cosmetic Industry Association standards and are based on human skin testing. But results can vary from person to person depending on the condition of the skin.

That’s why we used instrument-based measurements. By using a spectrophotometer, we aimed to reduce the differences caused by individual skin types and get a more objective indication of UV blocking performance.

Top 6 Pros of Anessa Perfect UV Sunscreen Skincare Gel

After comparing popular sunscreen gels, we found that ANESSA Perfect UV Sunscreen Skincare Gel has six notable strengths. We’ll explain each one below to help you decide whether it’s the right sunscreen for you.

High Equivalent SPF That’s Ideal for Outdoor Sun Protection

High Equivalent SPF That’s Ideal for Outdoor Sun Protection

UVB rays affect the surface of the skin (epidermis) and can cause redness and dark spots after sun exposure, which is why proper sun protection is important. A sunscreen’s ability to block UVB is indicated by its SPF rating (ranging from 2 to 50+). In general, the higher the number, the stronger the protection against sunburn.

In our tests, we measured this product’s SPF performance five times using a spectrophotometer. The average equivalent SPF value was 577.24, supporting its labeled SPF 50+ claim.

Among all the products we compared at the time of writing, only three exceeded an equivalent SPF of 50, while ten recorded SPF values of 10 or below. Sunscreen gels are often said to offer weaker protection, and several products in our comparison struggled to deliver strong protection. In contrast, this gel delivered one of the highest levels of UVB protection. It’s a reliable option for protecting your skin during extended time outdoors under strong sunlight.

High PA++++ Protection, Ideal for Daily Use

In addition to UVB, there are UVA rays, which can pass through windows and affect the skin even indoors. UVA penetrates deeper into the skin (dermis) and is associated with concerns like wrinkles, sagging, and skin darkening. A sunscreen’s ability to block UVA is indicated by its PA rating, shown as ++ to ++++, with more plus signs representing stronger protection.

In our tests, Anessa's sunscreen recorded one of the highest equivalent PA values among all items compared. Based on five spectrophotometer measurements, the average equivalent PA value was 18.13, significantly higher than the overall product average of 4.24. These results support its labeled PA++++ level of protection.

Formulated to Help Protect Skin From Daytime UV Damage

Formulated to Help Protect Skin From Daytime UV Damage

Aside from strong UV protection, this sunscreen is formulated to help minimize irritation during daily use. When our team reviewed the ingredients, they noted the presence of dipotassium glycyrrhizate, which is known for its skin-soothing properties and may help reduce irritation.

That said, it contains one UV scattering agent along with three types of UV absorbers. While this helps provide strong UV protection, it may not be ideal for every skin type. If you’ve experienced irritation from sunscreen before, it’s best to do a patch test before applying it fully.

Still, compared to other products we tested—some of which didn’t include any soothing ingredients—this formula shows consideration for sensitive skin. For those with normal skin, it should be comfortable enough for everyday use.

Minimal Stickiness After Application

Minimal Stickiness After Application

Contrary to some online reviews that claim it feels “very sticky,” we did not find the stickiness particularly strong after application. In five tests, we pressed artificial skin coated with the sunscreen against a container filled with beads. On average, only 4 out of 20 beads adhered.

While it’s not completely non-sticky, most people who regularly use sunscreen are unlikely to find it uncomfortable.

For comparison, some products in our test had more than 10 beads stick to the surface. Compared to those, this sunscreen shows noticeably less stickiness. It should also work well as a makeup base.

Smooth, Moist Feel Without Noticeable Tightness

Smooth, Moist Feel Without Noticeable Tightness

When testers tried the product, most did not notice any significant drying or tightness after application. The gel spreads easily, and more than half of the testers said it felt comfortable on the skin. Some even described a slightly moist, smooth sensation. Overall, the texture was rated positively, supporting the brand’s claim that it helps protect against dryness-related damage.

However, not everyone had the same experience. A few testers reported a slight lack of moisture after application. Compared to other products in our test that felt comfortable across different skin types, this one may feel mildly tight on dry skin. If you have dry skin, applying proper skincare beforehand is recommended.

Tester Comments on Texture:
  1. “Right after applying, it felt slightly moist and didn’t feel tight.”

  2. “It didn’t feel powdery or dry. It reminded me of well-moisturized skin after using a rich body cream.”

  3. “My skin felt slightly stretched overall.”

  4. “For a gel, it felt a bit heavier, but it stayed moisturized and comfortable. It seems usable even for sensitive skin.”

Easy-to-Use Tube With Precise Dispensing

Easy-to-Use Tube With Precise Dispensing

Anessa's gel sunscreen comes in a flat squeeze tube. The cap opens and closes smoothly and seals securely.

The tube is made of a soft material, making it easy to dispense the product with minimal pressure. Unlike some products we tested that released more product than expected when squeezed, this one allows better control. Testers appreciated the narrow nozzle, saying it made it easier to dispense just the right amount. This helps reduce product waste.

The tube is on the bigger side. Compared to some slimmer, more compact options in our test, this one may take up more space in your bag. If you want to take it on the go, consider carrying it with a larger bag.

2 Potential Drawbacks to the Anessa Perfect UV Sunscreen Skincare Gel

While Anessa Perfect UV Sunscreen Skincare Gel has many strengths, it also has a few potential drawbacks to keep in mind. If you’re considering buying it, it’s worth checking the details before you decide.

The Citrus Scent May Not Be for Everybody

The Citrus Scent May Not Be for Everybody

The brand describes the fragrance as fruity floral, and testers described it as a noticeably citrus scent during use.

However, opinions were divided. Some testers said the scent was uplifting, while others felt it smelled artificial or overly sweet.

Although it has a fresh, summery vibe, several testers commented that the fragrance felt somewhat synthetic and fairly strong. Those who prefer more natural or subtle scents may not find it ideal. In line with some online reviews describing it as “strong,” the scent does linger after application. If you’re sensitive to fragrance, you may want to consider a scent-free option.

Tester Comments on Scent:
  1. “It has a floral scent that isn’t my preference. Once spread out, the sweetness becomes more noticeable.”

  2. “It smells like lime and feels very refreshing. I like that it doesn’t have the typical alcohol smell of sunscreen. The scent isn’t too strong, so it’s easy to use all over the body.”

  3. “It has a clean, aquatic summer scent. It feels refreshing in hot weather, but it did feel slightly artificial smelling.”

  4. “The scent wasn’t overpowering and didn’t feel unpleasant while using it.”

  5. “The fragrance is quite strong and lingers even after a few minutes.”

  6. “It feels like the natural ingredient smell is masked with a sweet fragrance. I would have preferred it without added scent.”

May Transfer Onto Clothing, Especially Dark Fabrics

May Transfer Onto Clothing, Especially Dark Fabrics

One downside is that the product can transfer onto clothing. In our test, five minutes after applying the sunscreen to artificial skin, we placed black fabric on top and applied friction using a 200 g weight five times. Color transfer was observed in three out of five trials.

To be fair, all products we tested showed some level of transfer. Still, this sunscreen requires mild caution, especially when wearing dark clothing. It’s best to apply it before getting dressed and allow it to fully dry before putting on black or dark-colored outfits.

How to Use Anessa Perfect UV Sunscreen Skincare Gel

How to Use Anessa Perfect UV Sunscreen Skincare Gel

Follow these steps when applying Anessa Perfect UV Sunscreen Skincare Gel:

Application Steps:
1. Dispense a pearl-sized amount and apply it to both cheeks, forehead, nose, and chin. Spread evenly across the entire face.
2. Take the same amount again and layer it onto areas that are more prone to sun exposure, such as the high points of the cheeks, forehead, and nose.
3. For the neck, dispense an amount about the size of a 1-peso coin. Apply it to several points on the neck, then spread upward from bottom to top.

When applying to the neck, don’t forget the ears and the area behind the neck. For the arms and body, it’s recommended to apply the product directly in lines from the tube. Use your entire palm and spread in circular motions for even coverage.

Keep in mind that sunscreen does not last all day with just one morning application. Sweat and friction can reduce its effectiveness, so reapplication is necessary. For continued protection, reapply every 2 to 3 hours, especially when outdoors.
