The recycle symbols or numbers commonly labeled on the bottom portions of objects tell you what plastic derivatives such an article is made of. When buying your glue, make sure it caters to the specific plastic type you are faced with so the glue and plastic will stick together. 

For instance, softer plastic bottles and other plastic bags are marked PETE 1 or Polyethylene Terephthalate PET, making them compatible with spray adhesives. On the other hand, hard plastic such as floor tiles, shower curtains, ceramic and outdoor furniture are commonly labeled polypropylene PP (5) cements well when used with a plastic welder.

This plastic glue is composed of acrylic resin, making it an excellent choice for gluing metal and plastic. Quick-drying and non-water-based, it immediately transforms into a plastic state as it cures. Also, another quirk of this is that it doesn't stick to a perfectly dry surface and, thus, will not promote a bond.

Not only is it perfect for the mentioned carpentry and construction practices, but you may also circle this around your bolts and screws before tightening them to boost the latter's security from leaking or rusting. Besides an epoxy being part resin and part hardener, it also would not conduct electricity and is water-resistant. 

This makes epoxy a good option for electrical installation sealing. Plus, it cures to a gray color to match your broken or cracked concrete pathways and/or tiles, so you won't have your garden steps retiled. 

If you're unsure of the plastic derivative that requires gluing together, you cannot go wrong with a multi-purpose plastic glue. It is recommended for most household articles such as acrylic, vinyl, and PCV. 

In addition, it has also been tested to be washer- and dryer-safe, as well as photo-safe. It works well when gluing similar items, but be a little wary when cementing articles of different colors as it most times lifts the color off the surface. While it might glue well typical household items, it is not ideal for use on Styrofoam and its other variants. 

Being a two-component substance, epoxies should come in a double-syringe applicator – one housing the resin, the other the hardener.
