Bible stories are essential and teach great values, but it is important to consider the child's age and comprehension level before choosing specific Bible stories. We also trust the parents' and teachers' skills to explain the stories or tweak the wordings so that kids can understand the lesson more.
A good Bible story for younger kids is The Creation Story when God made the world in six days. It could teach children about how great God is and His creation. It also teaches young readers to conserve the environment since God assigned us humans to care for His creation.
On the other hand, David and Goliath's story is more appropriate for bigger kids. They can better understand the story of these two characters and how God gave David the strength to defeat Goliathーthis teaches kids to be brave because God is always with them.
For young kids, it's best to stick with stories that have a literal meaning because at this stage, they are only capable of understanding the literal text. As they grow older, you can begin to move towards stories like parables, which are short allegories and involve using interpretive and applied comprehension.
With the internet available and E-Commerce sites right at your fingertips, the options for choosing a storybook for your child are endless. You can either buy them physical books which you can order online or go the affordable way by finding printable ones, just as long as you have a printer!
The internet offers us a lot of options, and with just the right keywords, you can easily find your child a printable storybook online. This way, you have more control over which Bible stories you want your child to read without spending anything at all. It is also the best option when you're too busy to go out or when your child spontaneously asks you for a bedtime story, and you have nothing new to read them.
Physical activities help your child develop their small and large muscles, which is why interacting with a book can help in your child's physical development. Interactive reading through physical copies can also help young readers attain information longer than a digital copy and are more immersive. Make sure to buy physical books that have well-made covers in order for them to last longer with your family!
Bookbinding is essential in kids' Bible stories. Hardbound Bible stories are durable but may be heavy for younger kids, so an adult must always be with them when reading. Despite its weight, the hardcovered ones last longer. On the other hand, paperbacks are lightweight and more affordable than hardcover, but they are more prone to wear and tear.
There are many stories to share with your children, both from the Old Testament and the New Testament. Consider which part you want them to focus on first. The Old Testament covers human history and sets up the story. It is here that you find the classic Bible stories such as David and Goliath, Joseph the Dreamer, and the story of Moses.
The New Testament covers the story of Jesus Christ, from when He was born up until His resurrection. We are introduced to His many teachings, miracles, and beloved parables. When choosing a storybook for your child, clarify with them which part of the Scripture the story lands on so as to not confuse them with the timeline.
Kids' Bible stories may contain a single account or story to emphasize specific characters and values. Parents can read it habitually to remind kids of specific morals from the story. It can even serve as a practice reading book for younger kids. Some famous tales usually printed in this type are Creation and Noah's Ark.
Some Bible stories are compiled in one book to highlight a series of events or how God guided a known Bible character. The best example is the story of Jesus, the Star of the Bible! It narrates His life story from the First Christmas until His Resurrection on Easter. Some cover either the entire Old or New Testament.
However, if your budget allows, we strongly recommend getting kids' Bible stories covering the whole Bible. They include kid-friendly stories from Genesis to Revelation. It will be an excellent investment, and if preserved well, you can pass on the book to their children or organize a kids' Bible study once the pandemic ends.
Bible story collections in which the stories are divided into stand-alone books are easier for kids to peruse because they are more organized. You can also go for themed collections if you want to focus on teaching specific values; for instance, a collection of the stories of Daniel, David, Jonah, and more are great for teaching about heroism and courage.
Most people are visual learners, so the overall design creates a significant impact on the book, helping kids understand the Bible stories further. The text is critical for kids' Bible stories. Always go for clean and readable text, preferably with large font sizes, especially for younger kids or for those who are visually challenged.
To give you a clear introduction to the book, some have images on the front cover to catch the attention of young readers. In contrast, others have more illustrations to depict different scenes, such as ones that come in comic book format. It will be a matter of age and preference.
The majority of illustrations are drawn in a cartoon style to attract kindergartens and preschoolers. On the other hand, grade-schoolers may prefer storybooks filled with color but more realistic pictures. Some kids' Bible story illustrations are drawn in anime style, also known as manga, which will attract preteens and anime lovers alike.
When choosing books for younger children, go for picture books. These are books that have only 1 or 2 lines of text and rely heavily on the illustrations to convey the story. This is less overwhelming for very young kids, and they would spend more time sitting and reading the book with you.
There are many storybooks available on the market, and so are the features to choose from where one of them is the number of stories it has. There are plenty of books that highlight one story or event from the Bible and will prove more intimate for your child because of the single setting.
Other storybooks contain a compilation of stories, so you can have a different one for every night. Your kids will get to know more characters and events from the Bible, which may make them more excited to finish a book with a compilation of stories.
Some Bible storybooks are beautiful to look at, but the stories are more than just visual aesthetics. These stories must be aligned with what the Bible actually says, depending on your religious affiliation.
Of course, we cannot deny some differences across these Bible stories with regards to the publication's religious affiliation. For instance, the Roman Catholic Bible stories may include accounts from deuterocanonical books like Maccabees, Tobith, and Judith.
They are not present in other Christian Bible stories used by other denominations like Baptists and Evangelicals for several reasons. However, regardless of the religious denomination that you belong to, remember to check the accuracy of the Bible stories with the Bible that you are currently using.
Religious and spiritual books are tricky to navigate because of the different variations in belief systems. Take the time to really read the story before purchasing if you want to maintain consistency with the foundation you want to establish in your child.

If you still have more questions, read on below for Och Gonzalez's tips and insights as she answers some of the web's most asked questions!
This is a question with many answers, but for starters, avoid asking very young kids questions that may be well-meaning but beyond their capabilities. Questions that ask the reader to extrapolate or read between the lines are better left for older kids.
Another common mistake with kids' bible study is the implication of a happy ending or a hardship-free life if they follow God and become good Christians. This sets them up for a false belief similar to the prosperity gospel, in which obedience to God is equated to rewards and success. Instead, place emphasis on obedience and faith as an act of love for God, regardless of the outcome.
Make sure that everyone is seated or positioned comfortably. Before you open the book, hook them in by asking them to look at the cover and take a guess at what the book is about. Once you start, read clearly in a well-modulated voice, ramp up the excitement with dramatic sound effects, changes in tone, facial expressions, and hand gestures. Point out certain visual details to help them make observations.
You could ask questions every now and then just to keep the session interactive, but take care not to stop too often so as not to break up the flow of the story. Afterward, take time to discuss the book - ask questions to encourage story recall and deeper thinking.
With younger children, it is sometimes necessary to explain to them directly the lesson of the story, as they might not have developed the reasoning skills required yet to arrive at the lesson on their own. But with older kids aged 5 and above, it is more effective to provide prompts or ask questions to lead them to the moral of the story instead of direct instruction.
This technique facilitates children's ability to synthesize information and come up with the conclusion themselves. This is more effective because it means that they have internalized the lesson more than if it was directly given to them.
