Curel Intensive Moisture Facial Cream Review: Pros and Cons After Testing

It earned high marks for moisturizing performance in terms of pure hydration. When testers measured their skin before application, and again four hours after applying the cream, the average moisture level increased by 31.98. This exceeded the overall average of 29.01 across all compared products, showing that it delivers solid hydration.

Its moisture retention performance was also impressive. From 30 minutes after application to 4.5 hours later, it maintained a hydration retention rate of 109.03%. Some products in the comparison fell below 100%, meaning moisture levels tend to drop over time. In contrast, this cream not only hydrates well but also helps maintain that moisture. It’s especially recommended for those who prefer a simple two-step routine using just toner and a moisturizing cream, without adding an emulsion.

Curel's moisturizer also contains a well-balanced mix of skin-conditioning ingredients. After reviewing the ingredient list, we confirmed the inclusion of the ceramide ingredient cetyl-PG hydroxyethyl palmitamide and eucalyptus extract, both of which support the skin’s moisture barrier.

The formula also includes allantoin, an active ingredient that helps prevent skin irritation. Since many of the products we compared didn’t contain this ingredient, it’s a reassuring choice for sensitive skin.

However, it does not contain ingredients specifically aimed at anti-aging support. If your main concern is age-related skin care, this may not be the best option.

Overall, it feels light and comfortable on the skin. Out of the 10 testers who tried the product, only one reported dissatisfaction with the texture. Although the cream has a slightly rich consistency, it spreads easily and blends smoothly into the skin.

Some of the other products we compared had a thick texture that left a heavy, film-like finish. In contrast, this cream provides balanced moisture without feeling sticky. Testers described it as having a “light feel” and being “moisturizing yet smooth.”

That said, a tester mentioned experiencing slight tightness around the mouth and eye areas. If you’re prone to dryness in these spots, applying a slightly thicker layer may help.

Tester Comments on the Texture:

The cream left no sticky feeling after application. In testing, the product was applied to artificial skin and placed on beads four times in a row to observe stickiness. On average, only 1.5 beads adhered to the surface.

In comparison, many of the other products tested had more than 10 beads stick to them. This result suggests that Curel's cream leaves a smooth, non-greasy finish after application. Because it doesn’t feel sticky, it can also be used comfortably by those with oily skin.

Since it’s fragrance-free, it has little to no noticeable scent, which many users appreciated. While some of the other products we tested had a noticeable raw ingredient smell, testers commented that with Curel's cream, “there’s almost no scent even when you bring it close to your nose” and that it’s “easy to use every day.”

That said, those who prefer scented skincare may find it lacking. However, its minimal scent makes it easy to layer with other skincare products without clashing fragrances.

Tester Comments on the Scent:

The compact and lightweight container is another plus. While many of the products we compared weighed over 100 g, this one comes in at just 68.6 g, making it easy to carry without adding extra weight to your bag. Its slim size also means it won’t take up much space, so you can bring it along when heading out without hassle.

One thing that not all users may prefer is the packaging. Since it comes in a jar, you’ll need to use both hands to open and close the outer lid.

Among the other jar-type products we compared, some included a spatula for easier scooping. This product does not. While there’s no inner lid and you can use it immediately after opening the outer lid, the cream must be taken out directly with your fingers.
