While all bathtubs aim to keep your baby safe especially when she is slippery from soap and is extra squirmy, you can choose among these 3 products according to your needs and budget.
A basic tub is the regular, standalone bathtub that is made of plastic. Often it is the most budget-friendly option. It has a contoured interior, which provides support to your baby.
Since the plain plastic tub might be a little hard for your baby, you can add a cushion sponge inside this curved area for added comfort. While it is a practical choice, you need a big storage space for this kind of tub.
Some basic tubs have extra accessories such as mesh and plastic inserts for newborns so it can grow with your baby. Simply remove the attachment to convert it into a toddler tub, for example when your little one can sit on her own.
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission recommends using a hard plastic baby bathtub that has a sloped, textured surface or sling that keeps your baby from sliding in the tub. Be sure to check any attachments to ensure that they are fully secure to prevent your baby from falling over or slipping while in the tub.
Meanwhile, you can go for bathers or bath support if you plan to bathe your baby in the sink, or a regular bathtub inside the shower. These are either made of plastic or a soft mesh sling, which cradles your baby providing a comfortable reclining position with a secure grip. These are best for newborns and their sponge baths.
When using bathers or bath support, be sure to check that it can be used safely without it sliding around or topping over. Always have at least one hand on your little one also (whether they are newborns or toddlers) so that you can quickly respond to their needs and intervene at any time.
Also known as folding tubs, collapsible tubs are perfect for small spaces such as studio units and apartments. These are also great to carry around when the family is traveling or having a sleepover.
If you want a softer material, an inflatable baby tub is a great choice for a "swimming" party in the backyard or garage, especially when your little one can already stand and play in the water.
Always ensure that tubs are cleaned and dried well before storage to prevent mold and mildew buildup. Always supervise your children any time they are in or near water, even if they can stand and even when they already know how to swim.
Additional features such as draining plugs and non-skid bottoms offer convenience especially when your full attention is on your little one. A drain plug allows you to easily remove the water after bathing the baby – no need to lift the heavy tub.
On the other hand, having a non-skid bottom is an important feature to keep the tub in place, especially when your baby is soaped-up, slippery, and squirmy. In addition, also select a tub that is easy to clean, sterilize and dry to prevent mold growth.
It is absolutely necessary to never leave water in tubs and other containers around the house, as they can pose a drowning risk to your children. Be sure to drain all water completely and appropriately from vessels.
Decide on how long you are planning to use the bathtub so you can determine the size and type that are perfect for your needs. Best if the brand specifies the compatible age and weight limit of the bathtub.
For example, small bathtubs and bathers are perfect for newborns; some infant tubs can be used up to 6 months; while collapsible and inflatable tubs are great for older babies and toddlers.
Of course, always check your available space – whether it’s your kitchen sink, dining table, regular bathtub or shower, so you can get the right size of the baby tub. Apart from the correct size, make sure that the tub is BPA-free and has no sharp edges.
Having a little extra space in their tub also allows them a little wiggle and playroom to enjoy the water (while being closely supervised, of course!). If your little one is enjoying their bath, give them some extra time to splash and play in the water.
The more fun your child has in the bath, the less they'll feel anxious and/or afraid of water and/or bath time. Bathing should be a very relaxing and soothing experience for your child (and even you!).

From its name, Chicco Cuddle & Bubble combines two important pieces of furniture that you need for your baby: a changing table and a bathtub. This makes bath time easier and more convenient for both child and parent since you can store bath essentials on the sides and just below the bathtub.
This product has an adjustable height and two wheels, so you can easily use it and transport it anywhere. The tub itself is also detachable, which means you can opt to use it alone in your sink or on another surface. It comes with a soft reducer cushion, too, to make the changing table surface softer and more comfortable for your little one!
This collapsible tub from Nature to Nurture has a triple-stage feature—newborn, toddler, and kids stage—which your little one can enjoy up to 6 years of age. It has newborn support, a bath cushion in mint green and pink, and a bath stool for older babies and toddlers.
To convert the tub to your desired size, simply pull the aluminum legs downwards and push down to expand the tub. Some more features are a temperature sensor plug that changes from blue to white at 37 degrees Celsius and a tray for bath essentials like soap, shampoo, and washcloths.
This inflatable tub from Infantino allows your growing baby to splish and splash in the water. It comes with 10 floating balls to make the tub an instant ball pit. It also has a cute whale design that your little one will absolutely love! You can inflate it in your garage or backyard for an extra fun bath time.
This tub is BPA-free and is suitable for babies 6-24 months old. It's a great transition tub when your baby is already big enough for their infant tub and bather. Moreover, it has a release plug to drain the water quickly and is also foldable for easy storage. This means you can bring it during staycations or even when visiting relatives!
This bathtub is a 3-stage tub, which means it can be used by newborns, infants, and toddlers. It comes with a cushion and mesh, so you can bathe your little one snugly and securely. When your baby outgrows the attachments, simply remove them to convert this product to a toddler tub.
To ensure that the temperature of the water you're using is just right, this bathtub actually has a built-in thermometer that will show you in real-time how cold or warm the water is. It's made of PP+TPE, a durable folding-resistant material, and it's collapsible, so you surely won't have a hard time storing it!
This bathtub from Safety 1st is very spacious, perfect for your growing baby. It has a plastic bath pan for bathing your newborn. You can also add a lampin to create a soft cradle or bath support for your infant. It has head and back support, so first-time parents will feel more secure since you can ensure that your baby won't slip around.
When your baby grows out of the bath pan, you can easily remove it to use the basic tub. It has side compartments that can hold a toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, or washcloth. It can even hold small bath toys to keep your baby engaged and entertained during bath time.
Also spacious is this basic tub from Mom & Baby. But, unlike the usual bathtubs, it has a minimalist and sleek shape—almost the same as a clawfoot tub. For extra support for your newborn's head and back, it comes with a detachable cradle made of plastic.
This tub also has a plug for quick and easy draining and a small compartment for bath soap. This makes it convenient to use even if you want to bathe your baby outside of the bathroom. Because of its shape, this product can be easily hung on the wall after use. It also comes in fun colors such as green, pink, blue, and white!
This collapsible bathtub is a little bit different because instead of being flattened when storing it, it's foldable. It's made of FDA-certified safe plastic, so it's durable, and you can use it until your baby turns into a toddler. It also has an inflatable cushion inside that will keep your baby comfortable during bath times.
When your baby is moving more, you don't need to worry since this tub has a textured surface that will prevent slipping. You don't have to fret about cleaning this up, too, since it has a drain plug for easy drainage. Lastly, because of its convenient foldable design, you don't need to sacrifice storage space.
This bather from Apruva has a 3-position, adjustable backrest that you can recline the newborn cradle according to your or your liking. It also has a soft mesh sling and removable deluxe head support for your newborn's comfort—your baby surely won't fuss when you're washing them.
To keep the bather in place, it's built with a solid base with non-skid feet. This is great for instances like placing it over the tub. What's great about it is that storage will not be a problem because it folds into a compact unit. The fabric that it comes with is machine washable too.
As your baby gets a little bit older, they're going to be more malikot, so it's important to get a spacious tub that they can maximize until they're a toddler. YOBOO achieved that with this tub, and many customers said they were pleasantly surprised with how roomy it is.
It's safe to use since the bottom of the support frame has a TPE non-slip pad for stability. When you're done using it, you can easily fold it to save some space. For babies ages 0-18 months, it comes with a comfortable and adjustable cushion that you can remove after use.
Since it's hot in the Philippines, it's tempting to go swimming every day, and with this bathtub, your baby can do just that! This bathtub is inflatable, making it soft so your baby can splish and splash comfortably. You won't have to worry about them slipping because it has a textured surface.
It's quite spacious, so you can place some bath toys in there with your baby. The sides also have small pockets where you can keep their bath essentials. Costing less than Php 500, this bathtub is affordable and perfect for those on a budget.
Here are some of the most asked questions on the web answered by Dr. Joey Cuayo-Estanislao.
The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends delaying your baby's first bath until 24 hours after birth—or waiting at least 6 hours after birth if a full day isn't possible for cultural reasons.
Newer studies have found that delaying a baby's first bath helps them better regulate their temperature and their blood sugar, allows for more uninterrupted skin-to-skin and bonding time with their parents, improves breastfeeding success, and helps prevent their skin from drying out.
Newborns don't need a bath every day. They rarely sweat and don't usually get dirty enough to need a full bath that often. Newborns can go with just three baths per week. It's also good to wait until the baby's umbilical cord falls off on its own (usually in about 1-2 weeks) before giving your little one a full bath.
Once the cord has fallen off, you can give your baby regular baths. Keep their first baths brief and as gentle as possible, so they can get used to being bathed. As your little one becomes more active and more mobile, daily baths become more necessary.
Like with any activity in the water, never leave your little one unattended. Always have your bath supplies and your baby's things within arm's reach, and always have at least one hand on your baby.
Never place your baby in the water without first checking the temperature with the inside of your wrist or elbow if it's at a comfortable temperature for your baby. It's also good to avoid products that are heavily scented, as these can be irritating and/or drying to your baby's sensitive skin.
As with any activity with your little ones, bath time should be a safe and comfortable experience. Babies may initially be wary of baths, but making sure that the experience is pleasant and soothing helps your children to become more accustomed to baths.
And it cannot be stressed enough: Always closely supervise your children when they are in or around water (even if it's just pails and tubs in your home). Younger children, in particular, require touch supervision: they should be within arm's length at all times and, ideally, with at least one of your hands on them at all times.
While bathing your baby is a fun experience for the both of you, it can be quite stressful, especially for first-time parents. To help prepare you, check out our other articles below for more bath essentials that will help you get a happy and squeaky clean baby.
