Look for Ingredients That Moisturize and Protect Lips
No one wants tight and chapped lips. In buying lip products, you'd want to make sure that it contains hydrating and moisturizing ingredients. Here's a rundown of the ingredients you would do well to look for.
Natural Oils Like Coconut, Jojoba, and Avocado Are Nourishing and Soothing
Lip oils with natural oils for their base offer many skin-soothing benefits. Oils like coconut, jojoba, sunflower, hazelnut, and castor oils are often used as an emollient in cosmetic products because they are a rich source of fatty acids and make skin soft and supple. Plant and floral extracts are also often used in lip oils because of their antioxidant and healing benefits.
If you want something on the minty side, you can opt for a lip oil with eucalyptus oil, for something fresh and fruity, try wone with fruit extracts like raspberry, melon, watermelon, or passionfruit seed oils. What Causes Dry Lips?
It is not only Vit B2 deficiency that causes dry, cracked lips. Other more common causes of dry, cracked lips include:
- Dehydration
- Staying long in dry environments like airconditioned rooms
- Allergic reactions to lip products or lipsticks
- Allergic reaction to food
- Allergic reaction to toothpaste
To manage them, keep yourself hydrated, use humidifiers if you need to stay long in dry environments, or make sure to apply lip oils every 2 hours when in there. For allergic reactions, discontinue product use and consult a dermatologist.
When to Use Lip Oil?
Lip oils may be used any time of any day. But to get full benefits, don't forget to reapply. For me, I reapply my lip oils whenever I feel it has dried out, and after meals, of course.
Is Lip Oil Better Than Lip Balm?
Oils are not necessarily better than balms, but for others who are allergic to balms (when balms cause them further drying of lips), lip oils are very good options.
