As a mom of 3, Ange (@angeyao) believes that she can call herself a "professional toy and toy store hunter." This is why we partnered with Ange to show us her recommendations for the best toys for toddlers.

From looking for the best bargains to knowing what would be best for her children,  she is always on the lookout for toys that they would enjoy and challenge them intellectually. She believes that children can develop social skills, mature emotionally and gain self-confidence through playing.

  • Design + Draw - Monsters
    Petit Collage

    Ange Yao

Orijin carries the Petit Collage brand, which my kids really love. I personally love their Design + Draw collection, and I recommend this for kids ages 4+ since it helps enhance kids' imagination and creativity.

It gives them the freedom to create or build their own characters, such as monsters and make-believe animals. Plus, it comes with a bag where they can tuck away their creations, which teaches them the responsibility to clean up after themselves.
  • STEM Scientific Microscope Kit

    Ange Yao

STEM toys are highly recommended by educators since it sparks kids curiosity. I especially love this kit since my kids love the outdoors, they love to explore the world of botany, and this has been a big help in explaining the parts of the plant.

STEM-related toys are a must for me because these kinds of toys give your kids the opportunity to explore the world of science. My kids love their mini microscope, and this has widened their knowledge of plants and insects.
  • Hands to Create
    Wonder Corn

    Ange Yao

Wonder Corn is made from natural cornstarch, so this product is 100% biodegradable and environment-friendly. This product promises that your child can create anything that he or she can think of. From animals to vehicles to food, and other creatures, you name it, they can create it!

This kit keeps both of my boys preoccupied for a few hours. The only drawback is that my kids keep begging for more of those Wonder Cornsーnot that I'm complaining about it because this product has helped us cut down their screentime!
  • Real Mini Kitchen Set

    Ange Yao

This particular toy caught my attention since it works just like the real thing! You can boil water, cook eggs, make pancakes, and many more! Amazing, isn't it? This set teaches kids basic cooking, and you can even teach them the responsibility of cleaning up after themselves.

If you have kids who always offer to do all the mixing when you're cooking, this toy will be the perfect pick for them! Do take note that adult supervision is needed for this product, especially when using the electric hot plate and the knife.
  • Marvel
Avengers: Endgame Titan Hero Series Power FX Iron Man

    Ange Yao

I have 2 boys, so superhero toys are a staple in our house. I believe that with this type of toy, not only do kids expand their imagination, but it also helps them process different kinds of situations by identifying what is good and bad. It also creates a sense of empathy towards others and helping people in need.

The only drawback for this item is when they start to act like one of the heroesーthat is when the chaos starts. But where is the fun in playing when you don't act like one of the characters. right?
  • Lego
Super Mario Adventures With Mario Starter Course

    Ange Yao

Oh, the nostalgia! I don't know who enjoys playing these sets more, my husband or my kids! We all know that Lego is one of the best cognitive toys on the market. It boosts children's building skills, patience, focus, creativity, and of course, these all involve the fun element!

Since my kids love Super Mario games, this particular set has caught their attention because you can build your own obstacle course or Super Mario Worlds. It is also interactive and digital, which I think are great added features.

One of the drawbacks, I think, is that new sets are produced now and then, and it doesn't come really cheap. Nonetheless, this toy is very enjoyable and is a must-have for those who love Super Mario and Legos.
  • Ryan's World
    Mega Mystery Surprise Treasure Chest

    Ange Yao

If your kids are like my boys who are obsessed with Ryan on YouTube, then you can never go wrong with this toy! Your kids will be thrilled to unbox this enormous treasure chest and reveal what's inside it.

Admittedly, this is quite an expensive toy, but there are tons of " mystery treasures" inside it, such as putty, container, dig item and tool, dress-up set, game card, and many more! In addition, the chest doubles as storage for the toys, so packing up after playing is very convenient.
  • Endu
    Origami Kit

    Ange Yao

I'm not entirely sure if this origami set would count as a toy, but if it entertains your child, who are we to put labels, right? The art of origami has been around for thousands of years, and until this day, it is still an activity that both kids and adults enjoy.

I remember when I was a child, I would use old papers or newspapers to fold paper boats, hats, boxes. It brings back so many childhood memories and I am happy to share and create new memories with my kids. I always find the art of origami very relaxing, and I'm glad my kids are enjoying it too!
  • Heroes of Goo Jit Zu
    Redback The Spider

    Ange Yao

My kids are crazy about Goo Jit Zu. I'm not sure if this is a mainstream show in the Philippines, but I know they discovered it on YouTube.

What's interesting about these characters is each of them is special in their own way by having different elements inside their bodies. They're like dolls for little boys.

The only drawback for these toys is they are supposed to be super stretchable, but we know how kids are, so some of them get damaged over time, and some of the parts inside get exposed.
  • Funko Pop!
    Spiderman

    Ange Yao

For us, this is not really a toy that my kids particularly play with, but they love to collect them! Funko Pops are mini figurines and bobbleheads. I love that they offer a wide selection of charactersーfrom heroes to villains, Disney characters, Pokemon, and even characters from your favorite TV series. There's surely one that you will love!

We let our kids collect Funko Pops because, in a way, it tests their patienceーwhether they can resist opening them or not. I'm proud to say that for most of our purchases, they have successfully stored them into safety. Who knows, maybe one day, one of those purchases might be a collector's item and that's worth double or triple the current value.
