Liquid-type lip tints are the most popular, and most brands will have one item with a liquid formula. Some are more watery, while others have a gel-like consistency. Keep in mind that the more watery lip tints won't give as much coverage as lip tints with thicker consistencies.

Lip tints with a liquid-type formula usually have a doe-foot applicator, a roll-on tip, or a squeeze tube. This type of formula doesn't usually have moisturizing ingredients in it. The primary purpose is to give your lips a color that is basically tattooed on your lips for the entire day.

Matte lip tints have the lasting power of lip tints coupled with the coverage of a matte lipstick. Like a typical lip tint, these usually feel lightweight, like you're wearing nothing at all. They provide the look of a matte lipstick without the heavy feeling or the cracking and creasing.

Lip tints that are packaged in sticks look like a regular lipstick or a lip balm. However, when applied, they are sheer and lightweight, and perform similarly to the other types of lip tints. The main difference is that tint sticks are creamy and have more moisturizing ingredients that make the lips look softer and fuller. 

Peel-off lip tints probably have the longest lasting power among all the lip tint formulas. You first apply a thick coating of the product on your lips, leave it on for at least 10 minutes, then peel it off when it's dry. 

The color pigments absorb into the lips, resulting in a vibrant color that looks natural and juicy – not dry at all. For best results, exfoliate your lips before applying a peel-off lip tint and remember to use a lip balm throughout the day to keep your lips plump and hydrated.

You can find out your skin's undertones just by looking at the veins in your arms. If your veins have a bluish hue, you're cool-toned. This type is usually lighter in color and is more likely to burn than tan under the sun.

If your skin has cool undertones, complement it with cool-toned lip tints like pinks and purples. Blue-toned reds also work well with this type of undertone. Go for berry shades like plum and cranberry or a bright cherry shade that leans more towards blue than orange.  

If you tan easily even for just a short time under the sun, most likely, you have a warm undertone to your skin. The veins in your arms also appear green. People with warm undertones usually have a yellow, golden, or olive hue to their skin. If you have warm undertones, the best colors for you would be orange, orangey-reds, and reddish-browns.

Neutral skin undertones are in between the skin tone spectrum. If you have a mix of pink and yellow in the base of your skin, you are truly lucky because your undertone works with a wide range of shades. You can try mauve and pink hues or deep berry shades, and you'll look fabulous either way!

The most common type of applicator you'll see in lip tints is the doe-foot applicator. This has a slanted angle that follows the natural contours of your lips and makes application easy. It also keeps your fingers stain-free, since the applicator works well enough to distribute the tint accurately and evenly. 

Squeeze tubes work exactly as the name indicates. You simply squeeze the tube until the product comes out, and then you can use your fingers and dab the tint on your lips to distribute it evenly. Since the lip tint comes out of a tiny hole at the tip, this type of applicator keeps the remaining product inside the tube safe from contamination, leading to a longer shelf life.

Rollerballs work well for lip tints because of their watery consistency. The ball on top of the bottle may be made of plastic, glass, or stainless steel, but whatever the material, it works by gliding smoothly in a rolling motion to get the product out.
